Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2025 — Dallas, Texas
The Listening Lounge: Blue in Green
Avery Cox Design’s Listening Lounge for the Dallas Kips Bay Show House takes a personal lens to the legacy of American chic design. The room, subtitled Blue in Green is a nod to Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue and to the blue-green hue that defines the space. Cloaked in robin’s egg blue the Listening Lounge blends classic elegance with modern ease, continuing a tradition of spaces that are artful, daring, and deeply comfortable.

Nickel accents and modern lines paired with lush materials like velvet and silk provide a tension that gives the space depth and balance.
The robin’s egg blue walls set the tone for a space that feels both cultivated and effortless, luxurious yet approachable. The furnishings echo this duality: modern silhouettes meet traditional refinement, with glass, nickel, and black punctuating the ornate French architecture of the home. Designed as a lived-in sanctuary, The Listening Room invites you to settle in—to pour a drink from the bar, put on a favorite record, or read the morning paper with your coffee.
Clean lines, handsome furniture, and innovative use of color help this room feel at once nostalgic and of the now.
Layered with cosmopolitan polish and infused with Avery Cox’s Texan warmth and humor, the room embodies the essence of Kips Bay: bold creative expression that honors the past while joyfully improvising in the present. It’s a lounge for living—artful, daring, and deeply comfortable.

Just as jazz embodies improvisation, riffing on old concepts from an individualized perspective, Blue in Green interprets the legacy of American chic through a modern lens. The great classicists of American decoration, from Billy Baldwin to Albert Hadley, serve as touchstones for the room’s spirit and styling. Iconic color and timeless proportion are reimagined with contemporary ease, creating a dialogue between past and present—grounded in tradition, yet free to experiment.
